Transubstantiation

The ability of the Merifianan Changelings to transform themselves into other inanimate, solid substances, such as stone or wood.  In this state, the Merifianan resembles a statue of his or her former self, composed entirely out of the new substance.  Most of Merifianans can only activate this ability through a fervent prayer to their Goddess; many Merifianan myths portray the faithful using this power to save themselves from marauders or predators.  Once transubstantiated, Merifianans can only be transformed back into their former selves by being anointed with water.  Some very powerful Merifianan priests and paladins, however, are rumored to be able to transubstantiate themselves without anointment.
