An alphabet developed by the Netheldian Human scribes who were converted by the Merifianan missionaries approximately 1,200 years ago. A phonetic alphabet, it was designed as a common set of symbols to represent both the Merifianan and Netheldian tongues, precisely as they were spoken. New characters were added as the missionaries encountered more languages; the alphabet now stands at 37 characters. As the alphabet encounters new languages, spelling in Netheldian letters has yet to be regularized, and still varies according to regional accent and dialect. It is now the primary alphabet used in the Altair Universe.
